Winter storms can bring power outages, alternative heat sources, slips and falls as well as other hazards. Please check out the attached fact sheet for some important safety checks and tips to use during these cold weather months, particularly during winter storms.
ADDITIONALLY, IF YOU USE AN ALTERNATIVE HEATING SOURCE, SUCH AS A WOOD OR PELLET STOVE, OR KEROSENE HEATER, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FUNCTIONING CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) ALARM AS WELL AS FUNCTIONING SMOKE ALARMS. Combination Smoke/CO Alarms can be purchased for a reasonable cost at most hardware and major retail stores, or contact your local fire department.
Always make sure you have adequate space between any heating source and combustible materials.
