Thank You to the Members for a Wonderful Year

Having been a member of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad for many years, I have observed many changes throughout the years, and experienced numerous events, many happy, and some sad.
I will say however, that for the last year, I have never been as proud of the membership of this organization as I am at this time.
During the past year, the members of this Department fulfilled their primary objective of serving the citizens of St. Mary’s County by diligently providing fire protection, rescue, and emergency medical services. This endeavor alone requires much more than what meets the eye of the ordinary citizen. Hundreds of man hours away from home and loved ones are spent in training, apparatus and station maintenance, reports and record keeping, as well as administrative and management functions.
Additionally, our volunteer members planned, organized, and coordinated 7 major community events to include 2 Christmas Tree Lightings, 2 Halloween Boo Thrus, 2 Kids Bingos, and a Beach Party. All of these events were new endeavors for us, and all were a success.
Furthermore, the Department was able to hold numerous fundraising events including Food Trucks, 1 Golf Cart Raffle, 2 Chuck Charles Memorial Big Cash Raffles, 1 Chuck Charles Memorial Pellet Grill Raffle, as well as supporting the SDVFD&RS Auxiliary events when requested.
Members also provided various Fire Prevention and Public Education events, and most recently, provided transport for Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus to visit children in all of the communities of the Second and Ninth Election Districts of St. Mary’s County.
The members would also like to thank our citizens and business sponsors for their unwavering support and assistance.
Members of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Inc. can hold your heads high and proud, knowing that we have provided services unmatched to the citizens we serve.
I am so proud to be able to say that I was fortunate enough to become a member of this wonderful organization many years ago, and that I am able to serve as one of you.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Mike Roberts
