The membership of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad would like to announce that three of its members have recently completed Firefighter I training through the Cadet Recruit Class at St. Mary's County VoTech Center and the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute. Congratulations to Kaitlyn Vollmer, Andrew Jones, and Kermit Tillet on completing this rigorous training.
Major topics covered in this course are the fire department organization, communications, the incident command system, ropes and knots, fire behavior, safety, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, respiratory protection, ventilation, hose lines, forcible entry, search and rescue procedures, and ladder and sprinkler systems. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion and team-focused practical exercises.
