On Saturday, April 26th, James Matthew (Matt) Bowes was inducted into the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association Hall of Fame for 2025. Matt joined the Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad in 1988, when he was 18 years old and continued in various duties and titles throughout his 37 years of service, along with raising a family and working full time. Throughout the years Matt has been a leader, mentor, motivator, advisor and role model for many incoming new members always leading with s strong work ethic. As a Life member of the SDVFDRS Matt has shown a keen leadership ability and the willingness to perform in an exemplary manner throughout the years. Matt’s unwavering service and absolute dedication to the FIRE & EMS services and the citizens of Southern Maryland. Congratulations to Matt Bowes for a job well done!
