| The Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad (SDVFDRS) recently conducted an evening of hands-on training focused on hose line evolutions and nurse tanker operations, following the guidelines outlined in NFPA 1410. This national standard provides a benchmark for fire departments to measure performance and proficiency during essential fireground tasks.
During the drill, members worked in teams to deploy and advance supply and attack lines quickly and efficiently, simulating scenarios they may encounter during real emergencies. The training included the use of a nurse tanker operation, where a tanker supplies water directly to an engine at the scene while simultaneously being refilled, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply in areas without fire hydrants. These skills are critical in St. Mary’s County, where many rural areas require alternative water supply strategies.
By practicing these evolutions under NFPA 1410 standards, the department not only hones speed and coordination but also reinforces safety, communication, and equipment readiness. The dedication of the SDVFDRS to continuous training ensures members are prepared to meet the challenges of protecting life and property, providing the community with the highest level of service possible. |
