| On Wednesday, February 25th, the SDVFD&RS and mutual aid companies were alerted to the 20800 block of Callaway Village for a reported laundromat fire with subjects trapped. Engine 61 arrived on scene to find a one-story strip mall structure with nothing evident from the exterior. Chief 6 arrived shortly after and assumed command. Engine 61 crews investigated and located a light haze of smoke inside the building. The source was identified as a malfunctioning dryer that had been burning excessive lint. Engine Tanker 63 arrived, secured Engine 61’s water supply, and deployed a secondary attack line. Squad 6 responded as the first-due special service company and assisted with ventilation operations. The incident was quickly brought under control and scaled back to SDVFD&RS units only. |
