| The Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Inc. would like to congratulate Firefighter's Ean Cohen, Ke'Andre Brown, and Matthew Donovan for completing the Firefighter 1 course offered by the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI). The course is designed to train firefighters in the basic skills and knowledge required for all-hazard responses.
The Firefighter 1 course consists of 135 hours of instruction, covering topics such as fire behavior, personal protective equipment, fire suppression, ventilation, forcible entry, ladders, ropes, rescue, and safety. The course also includes practical exercises and a final exam. Completion of the course is also a prerequisite for "masking up" on fire calls, which is when a member is allowed to wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) on calls and enter structure fires.
Congratulations, guys. Keep up the hard work!
