Serious Motor Vehicle Accident with Entrapment on Flat Iron Road

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 25, 2024, the SDVFD&RS responded to a report of a serious vehicle accident with entrapment on Flat Iron Road in the vicinity of Guenther Drive in Great Mills. Due to information being received by St. Mary’s County Emergency Communications, Squad 3 from Bay District VFD, Lexington Park VRS, Medic Unit, and the Medical Duty Officer were also dispatched.

No Caption Our Hearts Go Out to the Families of Northern Virginia Firefighters

On Friday, February 16, 2024, one firefighter was killed and eleven others were injured, several severely, in Sterling, Loudoun County, VA. After arriving on the scene of a reported gas leak, the structure suddenly catastrophically exploded, injuring and trapping numerous firefighters under the debris of the building. Two civilians were also injured by the blast according to news sources.

Second District VFD&RS Dedicates Station and new Ambulance

At the monthly business meeting of the Second District VFD&RS held on March 8, 2023, the membership voted unanimously to dedicate the new Fire/EMS Station to James Gregory Adams in honor of his 59 years of service. At the same meeting, the membership voted unanimously to dedicate the new 2022 Ford Horton Ambulance to Joseph Earl “Fuzzy” Knott in honor of his 54 years of service.

SDVFDRS Responds to Woods Fire

Deputy Fire Chief Ronald (Ronnie) Alvey, February 04

Second District Volunteers responded to a woods fire reportedly threatening a structure on Hewitt Road in Valley Lee. Units arrived to find a 20x20 area of woods on fire, not threatening any structures. The fire was quickly extinguished with the bumper line off of Engine 61.
