On the afternoon of Sunday, February 25, 2024, the SDVFD&RS responded to a report of a serious vehicle accident with entrapment on Flat Iron Road in the vicinity of Guenther Drive in Great Mills. On Friday, February 16, 2024, one firefighter was killed and eleven others were injured, several severely, in Sterling, Loudoun County, VA. After arriving on the scene of a reported gas leak, the structure suddenly catastrophically exploded, injuring and trapping numerous firefighters under the debris of the building. Second District Volunteers responded to a woods fire reportedly threatening a structure on Hewitt Road in Valley Lee. Units arrived to find a 20x20 area of woods on fire, not threatening any structures. The fire was quickly extinguished with the bumper line off of Engine 61.
